U.S. warns Russia of consequences

Russian troops move across open ground during a search operation outside of the Black Sea port of Poti, Georgia, on Thursday.Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday that Moscow should face consequences for Russia’s “aggressive posture” in Georgia, but that the Pentagon does not want a new Cold War.

  • Russian tanks deter Georgian entry

    Russian soldiers block the road on the outskirts of Gori, northwest of the capital Tbilisi, Georgia, on Thursday. Georgia early Thursday said the Russians were leaving Gori, but later alleged they were bringing in additional troops. In the morning, columns of Georgian police and military vehicles prepared to reoccupy the strategic town of Gori after the expected departure of Russian forces.

However, the image in the leaflet is the skyline of Birmingham, Ala.Birmingham City Council distributed 720,000 leaflets that praised residents for exceeding recycling targets. But the photo used was not of Birmingham, England, but of Birmingham, Alabama.
